GreenSteelSkills – Skills for Green Steel
Project Duration: 2024 – 2027
The steel industry faces the major challenge of making its production processes climate-friendly and switching to “green steel.” This requires considerable investment in new technologies. The focus is on hydrogen-based direct reduction or electric arc furnaces, which were recently launched by steel companies in Saarland. The new technologies in steel production are changing not only work processes and job profiles, but also entire occupational profiles. In order to meet the changing requirements, a large number of employees need further training programs that can be integrated into everyday working life. At the same time, training programs must be updated and expanded to ensure the future viability and attractiveness of this industry.

As part of the project, a centre of excellence for labour research is being established together with 14 industrial and research partners from Saarland and Rhineland-Palatinate. The project is funded by the BMBF programme "Innovations for tomorrow's production, services and work" as part of the funding measure "Regional competence centres for labour research".
